Auburn Softball’s Under Armour era began with bold and unique designs.
As the years progressed, the Tigers embraced an ever-expanding uniform wardrobe to create numerous combinations. The Tigers didn’t just stick to tradition – they made their own.
Through the ups and downs of nearly two decades with Under Armour, Auburn Softball’s identity was defined by its creativity, energy, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what makes a good uniform combination.
2007
The 2007 season was Auburn Softball’s first of the Under Armour era. With the transition, the team’s new uniforms didn’t differ too much from the last Russell Athletic design.
The new white and navy jerseys were similar designs, including contrasting piping around the sleeves and the placket. The navy tops were updated to include the new Copperplate wordmark arching across the front. This was orange outlined with white rather than the other way around – and with a different font – on the previous style. “Tigers” remained on the white shirts, but now arched to match to the blue jerseys.
An orange jersey was introduced but with a slightly different design. Navy piping ran in between the torso and the sleeves to a navy field underneath the arms and around the back to the collar.
All three jerseys added the AU logo to the left sleeve and the Under Armour logo to the left side of the front. Sans-serif Copperplate numbers were used across the board, whereas the Russell jerseys used the serif version of Copperplate or a traditional block font.
Each jersey also featured larger names on the back, rendered in a thicker font. The Under Armour logo was also added to the socks likely becoming the first branded socks in the program’s short history.
2008
The SEC celebrated its 75th anniversary during the 2007-08 season. All teams wore the logo on their uniforms to celebrate. Auburn Softball added the patch to the right sleeve of each jersey.
2009
Auburn and Under Armour would completely overhaul the uniforms for the 2009 season.
The white and navy colorways matched in design, with sharp stripes running down the sides and on either side of the sleeves. The pants would match with the stripe pointing upwards. A stripe arched across the back of the jersey with the AU logo sitting directly below.
The orange jerseys differed in design and template. Rather than a full button-up jersey, these featured a Henley collar with two buttons. The collar was outlined with a navy stripe as well. A pair of navy and white stripes ran the sides of the torso from underneath the arms to nearly the bottom of the shirt. This jersey would also place the AU logo on the left side of the chest rather than utilizing the classic wordmarks across the front.
Auburn would also host a breast cancer awareness game. The Tigers wore pink t-shirts for the game, possibly for the first time in the program’s history. A white horizontal racing stripe ran down the shoulders and torso with a “Power in Pink” patch on the jersey’s back above the numbers. Pink socks would also be worn to complete the look.
2010
Auburn didn’t change the existing uniforms but did begin mixing grey pants into the combinations. The pink t-shirts would return for another breast cancer awareness game.
2011
In 2011, Auburn retired one uniform, the pink t-shirts, and introduced a new uniform.
The white uniforms were redesigned to a simpler more classic look with navy placket piping. The “Tigers” mark remained on the chest, though it and the numbers were now three-layered – navy with a white and orange outline – rather than two colors. A matching new grey uniform was also introduced but with an Auburn chestmark.
The pink t-shirts were retired after two seasons of use. For the 2011 breast cancer awareness game, the Tigers wore navy t-shirts with pink wordmarks and numbers. A pink ribbon was also added to the sleeve.
Auburn would also wear the circular SEC logo for the first time. The conference patches didn’t appear on the uniforms until Auburn began conference play.
2012
The 2012 season marked a big change for Auburn Softball. The orange jerseys were retired and would not be replaced. It would be a few years before the Tigers sported another orange top.
Auburn also introduced a new blue uniform, retiring the last piece of the previous uniform set. The new navy kit matched the white and grey designs introduced the year prior, with white piping and three-colored wordmarks and numbers.
Another new navy blue t-shirt design was used for the now-annual breast cancer awareness game. A block-font Auburn wordmark arched across the chest with this new design. The Tigers would also wear pink batting helmets in select games this season.
Auburn would also start introducing stirrups to the team’s uniforms this season. The Tigers sported two different stirrup designs – a plain navy pair and a striped style – for five unique combinations.
2013
For 2013, Auburn moved to stirrups full-time to be worn with each uniform combination. The orange-and-white striped designs were the primary option with a new grey-striped pair worn in select games.
2014
Following the 2013 season, Auburn parted ways with head coach Tina Deas. Clint Myers was hired as the program’s second head coach. With a new coach comes new uniform preferences. Myers removed the stirrups from the lineup, sticking with plain socks instead.
The Tigers wouldn’t change the base uniforms in Myers’s first season. But pink shirts would return for the breast cancer awareness game once again.
The new shirts were more jersey-like this time around, with a mesh torso and a more athletic cut. The new tops included navy wordmarks and numbers and two white stripes on each sleeve. Pink socks returned for the first time since 2009 with a new hot pink belt.
2015
2015 was an incredible season for Auburn Softball. The Tigers claimed the program’s first SEC Tournament title and berth to the Women’s College World Series.
For the second game of the season against UAB, Auburn debuted a brand new orange jersey – the first time in orange since 2011. The new jerseys didn’t match anything else already in the wardrobe, rather featuring a large navy collar and sleeve cuff with sublimated tiger stripes. The initial look paired the orange tops with navy pants and socks. Later in the season, a new pair of orange socks and orange belts would be introduced to the rotation.
Auburn would close out February with another breast cancer awareness game. The Tigers would forgo the usual light pink shade in favor of hot pink t-shirts, belts, and socks.
When Auburn made it to Oklahoma City, the Tigers would add the WCWS patch to the jerseys. As is protocol with this series, the patch was placed on the forward-facing shoulder when the player was at the plate. Therefore, right-handed batters wore the patch on the left shoulder and vice versa.
2016
Auburn would back up with the historic 2015 season with an even better run. Another conference tournament title and Women’s College World Series berth were due up, along with the program’s first WCWS Finals appearance.
The Tigers opened the season by introducing three new uniforms to match the alternate orange uniforms introduced last season. White, navy, and a dark charcoal grey set were introduced to complete the collection. The traditional “Tigers” wordmark would move away from the white jerseys to don the grey tops. At least one jersey represented the nickname since 2006.
While a new set of pants was introduced alongside the new jerseys, the old pants were used for a few games. The old pants had a thin stripe on the sides and the Under Armour logo placed above the back left pocket, whereas the newer britches had a thick stripe and the UA logo on the belt tunnel.
Another year, another pink shirt design. This season, the shirts included navy wordmarks and numbers and were paired with no additional pink accessories.
The 2016 Auburn Softball season came to a close once again in Oklahoma City. This time, the Tigers fought through a tough bracket to face the Oklahoma Sooners in the final series. Auburn would wear the navy and white uniforms throughout their time in OKC before breaking out the grey threads for the championship game.
The WCWS patch was once again placed on the “front-facing” shoulder for the navy and white sets. The grey uniforms were a late decision to be flown up from Auburn and did not feature the patch for game three.
2017
It’s hard to follow up the best season in program history. 2017 was a disappointing end to the year as the Tigers’ season ended in the Super Regional round to eventual champions Oklahoma.
Auburn didn’t make any changes to the uniforms in their second season of use. The only change throughout the wardrobe came with the pink uniform game in which the Tigers added pink socks.
While the uniforms didn’t change, Auburn did make a splash with new batting helmets. After many years of plain and simple designs, the Tigers added new matte navy lids that had orange bills and areas around the ridges and air holes. Early games paired this shell with an orange facemask before later swapping to navy cages.
When the SEC Tournament began, Auburn arrived with shiny new helmets. The new shells were a glossy white with navy details and facemasks.
2018
The 2018 season was one of the busiest for Auburn Softball. This season marked the first for Mickey Dean as the program’s head coach, for starters.
The Tigers would introduce a full slate of new uniforms as well. The four initial uniforms mimicked in design. The arching Auburn wordmark sat on the chest with two-toned stripes on the sleeves and down the pants leg. Also included in this rollout was the program’s first-ever pinstripe uniform.
Auburn would make good use of the new pinstripes, pairing them with the pink shirts and socks for the annual breast cancer awareness game. The new shirts featured the player’s number on the front for the first time since 2010.
The Tigers played the series finale at Ole Miss on Sunday, April 1. With it being April Fool’s Day, Auburn pulled a prank with their uniform combination. Sporting the orange tops and white pants, the players decided to wear one white sock and one navy sock.
Auburn would continue to wear the same two helmet designs from 2017. For the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers wore a new helmet. It was the same model and design as the others, but now a matte light grey shell with navy details. The biggest detail was the AU logo on the front. For the first time, Auburn utilized a raised 3D logo on the batting helmets.
On March 19th, Jacksonville State University was hit by an EF3 tornado, damaging the campus and some student housing complexes. Miraculously, no deaths were reported in the storm. Auburn added a #JSUStrong decal to the batting helmets for the March 21st meeting against Alabama State.
2019
What might be a relatively small tweak made for a big impact on the team’s uniforms. Auburn introduced a new set of socks – navy with large Northwestern Stripes around the calf. The Tigers would mix the new striped socks with the old stripe-less set during the year.
Auburn would run back the same pink uniform combination as the year before for the breast cancer awareness game – pink t-shirts, pinstripe pants, and pink socks.
Auburn swapped from DeMarini helmets to Under Armour this season, introducing two new designs. The shells worn most of the season were matte white with white cages. A brand new 3D AU logo adorned the front of the lids in navy with a white outline. The secondary helmet was matte navy and paired with silver facemasks and an orange-and-white AU logo decal.
In March, the Beauregard community of Lee County, just a few miles from Auburn’s campus, was hit by an EF4 tornado. The long-track twister would kill 23 and injure nearly 100 others. Auburn added a special Lee County Strong decal to the helmets for the remainder of the season in support of the local community.
2020
After introducing the navy Northwestern Striped socks last year, a new white pair was added to the rotation. These were the only two sock designs worn throughout the season.
The Auburn Softball season was cut short after just 27 games due to the covid pandemic.
2021
Following the 2020 pandemic and social uprising, all Auburn team sports added the Auburn Unity logo – a clasped black and white hand also in the shape of a heart – to their uniforms. Auburn Softball added the patch to the right sleeve of each uniform throughout the season.
Auburn added a new orange pair of the Northwestern Stripes this season, rounding out the complete set. For the annual breast cancer awareness game, Auburn simply added pink socks to the pinstripe uniforms.
Between the new sock designs and the team’s propensity to mix and match uniforms, a program record 19 uniform combinations were worn in 2021.
2022
The 2022 season was a milestone for Auburn Softball, marking the program’s 25th season. To celebrate, the Tigers added a commemorative patch to the right sleeve of each jersey.
With the new jersey patch, the Auburn Unity patch was removed. The mark was added to the back of the helmet as a decal. Another decal adorned the helmets with the Jane B. Moore memorial decal. Moore, the namesake of the Auburn Softball stadium and longtime champion of Auburn women’s athletics, died in July 2021 at the age of 85.
Three years after introducing the large Northwestern Striped socks, Auburn changed the hosiery design to considerably thinner stripes.
Auburn wouldn’t introduce a new batting helmet for 2022 but rather bring back two former designs.
For the non-conference schedule, the Tigers wore the 2020 navy and white two-toned shells. During SEC play, the 2021 white helmets returned.
2023
The Auburn Softball program introduced three new uniforms for 2023.
The white uniforms were tweaked slightly, changing the dual-color stripes on the sleeves and pants to thin Northwestern Stripes. “Tigers” was re-added to the chest, returning to the lineup for the first time in six years.
Auburn’s new navy and grey uniforms brought a brand new design to the program. Both colorways included large Northwestern Stripes on the collar, sleeves, and pants. As both of these jerseys were pullovers and didn’t include the traditional plackets with buttons, the new striped collars were oddly truncated at the front. The grey uniforms carried the typical Copperplate wordmark while the navy tops became the first to sport the Auburn script mark.
After years of swapping batting helmet models and manufacturers, Auburn switched to Mizuno lids. The new shells were matte white and paired with navy facemasks.
2024
In 2018, Mississippi State softball player Alex Wilcox passed away from her fight with ovarian cancer. Wilcox was beloved throughout the SEC, having played travel softball with many players throughout the conference. Her passing hit the SEC softball community hard.
Since her passing, Mississippi State and rival conference foes have honored Wilcox and others fighting ovarian cancer by wearing special teal uniforms. Auburn wouldn’t partake in the special uniforms until 2024 when they debuted a new teal-trimmed design at LSU.
The new uniforms included teal and navy piping, wordmarks, player numbers, and AU logo on the back. The “All for Alex” logo was placed on the right sleeve. The Tigers would pair the new jerseys with a new pair of teal socks and the team’s plain navy practice pants. It was the first time all these elements had appeared in a game.
2024 also marked the return of the larger Northwestern Striped socks after two years of the thin design.
The 2024 season was first time that teams in the NCAA Tournament would wear the blue NCAA patch on their uniforms. Previously, only the Women’s College World Series patch would be utilized for the eight teams to make it to Oklahoma City.
Auburn wore three different uniforms for the 2024 Tallahassee Regional. The navy and orange jerseys added the NCAA patch to the right sleeves, whereas the white tops placed the light blue circle on the front left of the chest.
Auburn continued with the multiple batting helmet rotation this season. For the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Tigers wore the 2023 white Mizuno helmets with the navy facemask.
Once SEC play began, navy details were added to the bill and ridges around the shell. A white AU with a navy outline adorned the front of the helmet. Starting with the SEC Tournament, the helmet was changed to orange details and facemasks, complete with a traditional navy and orange AU logo on the front.
Head coach Mickey Dean retired at the end of the season. Auburn ushered in a new era by hiring Chris and Kate Malveaux as co-head coaches.
2025
The 2025 season didn’t see any new changes to the Softball team’s uniforms. The Tigers continued to sport the same uniforms as the previous years.
Another NCAA Tournament appearance means another set of games wearing the blue NCAA patch. Auburn played five games across three days in the Tallahassee Regional, resulting in three new uniform combinations featuring the blue circle patch. That brought the Tigers’ total number of combinations to 21, breaking the previous record of 19 set back in 2021.
The only addition to the wardrobe this season was a new batting helmet. The Tigers continued to wear the navy-trimmed and orange-detailed white helmets from the previous season. They also added a new matte blue shell with an orange AU logo trimmed in white.
From bold beginnings to an ever-growing collection of combinations, Auburn Softball’s Under Armour years were marked by creative experimentation and boundary-pushing designs. Through those years, the Tigers not only redefined their visual identity but also achieved historic milestones—claiming their first SEC titles and making their inaugural Women’s College World Series appearances.
As Auburn transitions into a new era, the legacy of the Under Armour era – both on the field and in the equipment room -remains a defining chapter in the program’s story.
The pages turn to a new chapter this summer as Auburn begins the Nike era.
